Marquette Owners Registry for Enthusiasts

Issue # 4 March, 1998

Spring Is Here

Well it looks like I broke my New Years resolution of being more timely with the newsletter, but here we go anyway.

With spring several new cars have joined or rejoined our ranks.     In April, I was driving to Spring Carlisle on PA route 34 and just inside the town of Carlisle, I stumbled across a Marquette Sedan for sale right there on that very road!     It is a very solid and mostly original (save for paint and interior,) model 37 sedan.     I was able to meet the owner Bob Highlands and his entire family and take a large number of photos of his car .     I want to welcome him aboard and thank him again for his hospitality.     It is amazing to know that you have driven by that very spot for 15 + years and right there sat a car I never knew existed.     Bob has the History on the car including that it was sold by Black Cadillac Buick right there in Carlisle and that it had always been garaged (see photo on for sale page.)     He is selling his car after years of not being able to find parts for his Marquette.     I hope that someone will be able to help Bob in this matter.

The very next day it was off to an auction in Bethlehem, PA where a very presentable model 37 was sold off the block to a happy new owner Chuck Chase!    To say the least it was about the best buy I have seen on a clean car.     If I only had more room I would have had to add this car to my collection, side mounts wire wheels and all.     This car had a photo featured in the Oct. 1981 issue of MARC when the previous owner had the car.

I have also located a model 30 owned by Tom Brzeczkowski of North Townawanda, NY and a hardy welcome aboard to new member John Swanson with a model 37, from New London, MN.     It is great to come across this many new owners.     From several reports at flea markets there has been an increased interest in the Marquette.     I hope this format is helping in some way.

Good News

The Marquette Owners Registry for Enthusiasts has been accepted as a non affiliated organization with the Buick Club of America.     Hopefully this will help get the message out there.

Once again I hope to have a meeting of the Marquette Owners during the AACA National Fall Meet at Hershey PA.     Last year John Aucoin was nice enough to furnish a location/resting place in the chocolate field.     I hope to have more information on this in the June (ha) issue.

In Fond Memory

A couple of weeks ago I received the sad news that a very active member of our registry has past away.     Bill Wood of Hudson Falls, NY will always have a special place with this editor.     Bill had been working with a local casting company on reproducing several parts for our cars including running board step plates, outside door handles and was attempting to reproduce wood wheel hub caps.     Even though I never met Bill in person, I was often in contact with him and will miss his calls and enthusiasm.     Bills wife is currently looking for someone to finish his Model 36.    Anyone interested please contact me directly and I will pass the information onto her.

Thanks Don
